**This photograph was taken while I was conferencing with a student about the assignment. I had read The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson to the class and had them answer a few questions on a worksheet I created about symbolism in the book and how the fence stood for segregation in America.
Lesson plan reflection
Today I had my Math with Manipulatives observed lesson and it went fantastic. I did not even have to talk with my supervisor or cooperating teacher to realize how much of an improvement this lesson was from my first observed lesson. I felt a lot more confident going into this lesson than my previous one because I am more comfortable with this group of students, I knew what I had to work on based off my comments from my Read Aloud and I felt more relaxed teaching this subject than the last because I know more about it.
I had a lot more strong points during this lesson than the last. The topic and manipulatives were relatable to the students because I used pizza fractions. When the students were struggling with a question, I had them think of how to divide up a pizza pie and they were easily able to draw this. The fact that they could always refer back to drawing a picture to solve the problem was a huge help to a lot of students in the class because the majority of the class are visual learners. I explained the procedure for this lesson a lot more clearly than the previous, so the students understood what they needed to do and did it. When the students did have questions, I gave them an opportunity to ask while I was circulating the room and working with the small group on the rug. The small group was a great addition to today’s lesson. As I was giving them directions to the independent practice, I saw a few confused faces and decided to announce that I will work with those who need help on the rug. I had a small group of students who had extra questions and so I was able to explain to them even more how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers. There were times during the lesson that I would pose questions to the class and receive blank stares. This is when I took one of two approaches; I gave them more clues as to what I was looking for or I had them turn to their partner to try and figure it out. When the students would come up to the board to answer a question, I would not always say correct and move on, I would question the student as to why they thought that was the answer, even though it was, and have them explain it to me so that I could see they understood the whole concept. Overall I felt more confident in this lesson, allowing me to be more enthusiastic while teaching.
There are still many things I need to work on when teaching my lessons. Time management is definitely my weak point. I always think I am going to have plenty of time and end up rushing at the end. The students began getting antsy on the rug during the lesson and I tried to move on, however I kept getting more questions that I felt were important for the whole class to hear the answers. I need to work on not answering my own questions at times when the students are unable to answer them. There were a bunch of things that I wanted to do during this lesson that I did not get a chance to do because I took too long in another area; however that it why I choose to just have the students convert improper fractions into mixed numbers on their bingo sheets, rather than actually playing a game. The one thing that I look back at now and wish I did was use the pizza manipulatives during the small group explanation rather than draw pictures because the students seemed to respond to them better than my drawings. I definitely have a lot to work on for my next lesson, however I improve each day in this class based off of the comments I receive from my cooperating teacher and my students.
I am a lot happier today writing this than I was on my previous observed lesson because I have a lot of strengths to discuss than weaknesses. My major focus for my next lesson is time management. I need to not take so long on my whole class lesson and break the class up into small groups of students who need more help and students who understand and are able to work independently, like I did today. I am pleased with the students’ participation during today’s lesson and hope that I just keep on improving.

Supervisor evaluation
After my observed lesson I met with my supervisor to discuss my strengths as well as what I still need to improve on, this is what she suggested.
